drawing like chuck
My 8th grade students were inspired by the photo realist paintings of Chuck Close and created their own value study portraits.
My room was filled with oohs and ahhhs combined with pure disbelief that his works were painted and not photographs.
Each student learned how to use a grid as a drawing tool. They drew grids on their portrait photographs and then again on their papers and then were able to copy these images and create vivid value drawings.
They are all wonderful and my young artists did a super job of creating depth, emotion and texture in each one of these drawings!
Chuck Close is a hero in my mind too with his story of perseverance and continuing to create great art after being paralyzed from the neck down. If you are not familiar with Chuck Close's phenomenal work please do check him out today.
Enjoy these student inspired works!
Be Well and Enjoy!
