Now that summer is here there are so many things we can do to get outside and see and find art. This week I went on an art seeking adventure and took both my husband and my camera along with me.
In college I had a photography concentration and even built a darkroom in my own home but I am just starting to dip my toe into the digital pond and got my first digital camera. As you can see pictures previously posted on my blog, I do enjoy using it.
As an undergraduate student, I loved photographing found still life and old houses. These things have so much character, life and story left to be depicted through visual art. Using my digital camera was great as I walked around such abandoned, scary and fantastic places. I think that duality for me is the exciting part of photographing old structures.
We traveled up to the once flourishing Sullivan County and walked around seeing the sights. There are many beautiful structures and small towns that are sadly quiet now but really still hold so much beauty so worth a visit. Click on the title of this post and you will be brought to a great link about all of the decay in the Catskills called the "Vanishing Catskills."
I was lucky to also find some great life in chickens as well which just proved that there is new life and beauty in the everyday.
So here are a few of my favorite images of the day. I know I will certainly be up there again enjoying the beauty and art among the abandoned.
Be Well and Enjoy!
